Senior Director, Manufacturing

Acumed is seeking a Senior Director, Manufacturing (SDM) to lead all aspects of the manufacturing process as a member of the Executive Team. This exciting opportunity will allow an experienced manufacturing leader to build and develop successful teams, inspire people to achieve continuous improvement, facilitate a lean manufacturing philosophy, and drive change within a medical device manufacturing organization. The SDM will ensure a safe work environment where products are delivered to customer expectations. He/she will be responsible for managing manufacturing processes, quality, costs, and appropriating resources (materials, personnel, machines, methods, and measurements) to achieve company goals. A strong candidate in this role will also have the opportunity to develop into a Vice President position!


  • Develop a clear vision, strategy and goals for manufacturing that meet customer needs and achieve Acumed's financial goals.
  • Responsible for implementing strategy and achieving commitment/goals related to internal manufacturing resources.
  • Responsible for management of new product introduction (NPI) activities in manufacturing.
  • Continuously improves product and service Quality, Cost, and Delivery, with focus on manufacturing lead-time, throughput, and utilization. 
  • Coordinate, support, and maintain Lean Manufacturing concepts within the cell teams to promote continuous process improvement activities.
  • Monitor capacity in the cell(s). Make sure resources are available to accomplish work in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Manage production supervisors- conducting annual performance reviews, coaching them to build strong relationships and achieve results, and ensuring adequate training/ skills development occurs for all manufacturing personnel.
  • Proactively promotes safety
  • Participate in the development of the company's plans and programs as a strategic partner but particularly from the perspective of the impact on manufacturing.
  • Provide leadership guidance and mentoring. Develops and implements solutions to organizational challenges by leading and coaching others through changes. Fosters a culture of accountability and ownership. Helps define and set cultural expectations by championing company-wide change initiatives.
  • Lead quality and continuous improvement activities in manufacturing by establishing clear vision and values, and appropriate resources.
  • Ensure quality assurance is built into manufacturing activities and leads a culture of ownership- where manufacturing personnel own their personal and team quality results.
  • Help develop annual operating budget and manages activities to achieve expected financial results.
  • Manage Cost of Goods Sold as part of operating budget
  • Responsible for the review and performance of capital expenditures in manufacturing to ensure expected investment benefit is achieved.


  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing management, business, or related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of leadership/management experience in manufacturing environment, including demonstrated success working as a member of a team in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in implementation of Lean Manufacturing concepts and techniques.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma quality concepts
  • Knowledge and experience with ERP/ MRP systems and their applications.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to motivate others to work as a team towards a common goal.
  • Proven history of empowering employees
  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable ISO9001 and FDA Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) requirements; experience with ISO 13485 and FDA GMP Title 21 Part 820 preferred.
  • Proven success in executing improvement plans and activities which achieve expected results.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.
  • A hands-on leader with integrity and a desire for work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
  • An effective communicator, with strong verbal and written skills.
  • Strong commitment to developing team members.
  • Demonstrated experience in the identification and development of metrics and measurements to successfully manage, control and profitably grow businesses.
