Accounting Manager

The Accounting Manager manages general accounting functions and the preparation of reports and statistics reflecting earnings, profits, cash balances, and other financial results.  Formulates and administers approved accounting practices throughout the organization to ensure that financial and operating reports accurately reflect the condition of the business and provide reliable information necessary to control operations.  The Accounting Manager is responsible for assigning responsibilities and the performance of the General Accounting Team.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform a variety of accounting duties in preparation of accurate and timely monthly and annual financial statements, supporting schedules and management reports.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to inquiries regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Achieve accounting operational objectives by contributing accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • Assist the Controller in managing the annual financial statement audits; working with the company and external auditors in meeting desired deadlines, commitments, and reporting to the Audit Committee.
  • Accomplish accounting human resource objectives by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing compensation actions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Work with direct reports to establish performance goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Monitor and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Support budget and forecasting activities.
  • Collaborate with other department supervisors to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting or Finance required, MBA preferred.
  • 8 or more years accounting experience required.
  • 4 or more years of experience directly supervising an accounting department.
  • CPA credential desired.
  • SAP experience required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and establish financial policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, with little supervision.
  • Knowledge of operating and capital budget concepts.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and to prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion.
  • Knowledge of policies and practices associated with payroll and benefits administration.
  • Knowledge and ability in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and use discretion under varying conditions.
